The Austrian director takes an unusual approach in depicting life and suffering in the mammoth cities at the end of the 20th century with their millions of inhabitants, in metropolises which can no longer be understood. Glawogger combines documentation and stage-sets in order to depict daily life in the megacities, and the causes and outcomes of poverty among large sections of the population in Bombay, Mexico City, Moscow and New York.
