A film by Jafar Panahi
Sat, March 05, 2016 4.30 pm CET, Film Screening
It’s not actually allowed to be the best film of the 65th Berlinale film festival: Jafar Panahi had to secretly film »Taxi Teheran« in his native country and then smuggle it into Berlin. Due to his critical position to political and social conditions in his homeland of Iran, most of his films are banned there.

Since his ban as a film director, Jafar Panahi has been driving taxis. But he has not given up his true profession: In »Taxi Teheran«, Panahi drives his passengers – a cross-section of Iranian society – through the streets of Teheran and collects their stories. Among others, he chauffeurs his own niece, a human rights activist, an illegal video distributor and two superstitious women.

Jafar Panahi is considered one of the most important, independent filmmakers in Iran and has been awarded a number of high-level prizes.
