John Chantler »Logic Being The Lowest Form of Magic« (2016–2017, UA, 35')

»Logic Being The Lowest Form of Magic« is a new piece from the Australian born sound artist John Chantler. The sounds used were created by Chantler primarily with the help of the Serge modular synthesizer for a four track sound installation in Stockholm and were prepared during a several week residence phase at the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustic by Chantler. The sound dome version of »Logic Being The Lowest Form of Magic« which finally emerged was especially developed for the cupola-shaped speaker setup of the ZKM sound dome. The working title refers to a quote by the famous US American jazz pianist Cecil Taylor.

Junya Oikawa »Plastic Recollections 6« (2015–2017, UA sound dome version, 21')

»Plastic Recollections 6« (Plastic Recollection Series) is a sound project that Junya Oikawa has been running since 2004. In it, he looks for different sound worlds, which could be generated from the sounds of one and the same object - and opportunities to organically arrange these sound worlds in the room. Until now, he has presented numerous compositions in the course of his serial project, whether it is the clattering MD sound, the sounds of a piano, rubbing a cement block or the melting sound of styrofoam. Plastic Recollection 6 was created for his solo concert at the Fohhn IOSONO LAB and its 3D System, on behalf of the art foundation of Baden-Württemberg in April 2015. The work is based on the sound of a snare drum. Both the static and dynamic changes that happen when tackling the snare drum are repeated in the generated sound texture - as though sound cells were distributed throughout the room. It is an attempt to redefine the relationship between the sound fragments and the development of a work as an organic structure. Thereby, spatial paragraphs were created in the form of sound, which Oikawa arranged in three dimensional rooms with the help of the ZKM_sound dome.

Dietmar Dath & Thomas Weber »Nie mehr warten« [Never wait again] (2017, UA sound dome version 55')

A speech, singing and music drama about the Russian revolution in 1917: A, B and C – one voice for the revolution, one against it and one that can’t make up its mind. All three experience the historical situation »between February and October« 1917 as a tremendous strain, in which everything is pushing towards a decision, which has not yet been made. So, the present is constantly afflicted by flashbacks and visions. Letters from Lenin to his lover Inessa Armand, play a special, secret role, whose hidden second text emerges as a type of song. Ensemble: Kammerflimmer Kollektief, author: Dietmar Dath, composition: Thomas Weber Production: Iris Drögekamp & Thomas Weber
