Albert Barqué-Duran

Biography

The artist Albert Barqué-Duran is an Honorary Research Fellow at the City, University of London and the Lacuna Lab, Berlin.  He holds a PhD in Cognitive Sciences from City, University of London and has been a visiting researcher at Harvard University and University of Oxford. His artworks and performances are inspired by his research in which he appropriates postmodern art techniques ranging from artificial intelligence, data streams and experimental electronic music to classical visual arts methods such as oil painting. In his work, Albert Barqué-Duran reflects on universal topics from digital scientific culture and directs disruptive projects at the interface of art, science and technology. He leads these projects by deliberately setting himself the following aims:

1. finding novel formats of generating scientific knowledge
2. reflecting about contemporary and futuristic issues and its cultural implications
3. creating powerful experiences to push the boundaries of human perception

Albert Barqué-Duran is one of 64 »cultural activists« of »We Are Europe« and has been awarded the »Re:Humanism Prize« and the »International Award City of Lleida«. Albert Barqué-Duran has exhibited and performed in »Sónar+D« in Barcelona, Spain, at the »Albumarte« in Rome, Italy, at the »Creative Reactions« in London, UK, at the »SciArt Center« in NewYork, USA, at the »Cambridge Neuroscience Society« in Cambridge, UK, at the »IGNITE Fest« in Medellín, Colombia and at the »Mobile Week Barcelona« in Barcelona, Spain.
