»Motion Picture 2.0« stands for a new kind of video recording, which alters the relation of viewing images and films.

In addition to image and sound, the App saves the camera movements during filming. The novel features of the videos of this app is that they do not remain fixed in one image section, on one monitor or one screen when being played back. When played back on a 360° screen, the square image section of the video crosses from left to right or from above to below, tilting and pivoting on its own axis depending on how you have moved during recording. Thus, the »Motion Picture 2.0« videos not only set things, but also people in motion. The audience must also actively participate in order to view the spectrum of things filmed.
This effect can be experienced as soon as filming has been completed. If you turn around while holding the smartphone in your hand so as to follow the sequence of images, the simulation of the 360° canvas likewise turns on the mobile phone screen. The app »Motion Picture 2.0«, therefore, breaks with common patterns of perception, thereby making the recording situation physically perceivable.

The project »Motion Picture 2.0« was developed by the ZKM | Institute of Image Media and sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research as part of the »Science Year 2014 – The Digital Society «.
