Adorno and the Media
Painting of a bald man with a blue T-shirt on against a black background.
Fri, December 13, 2019 – Sun, December 22, 2019

The exhibition gives an insight into Theodor W. Adorno's media criticism and its relevance in digital culture.

From the point of view of media theory, Theodor W. Adorno is one of the most ambivalent figures of the 20th century. As relentlessly »negative« as Adorno's analyses of industrialized media production may have been, he nevertheless dealt practically with the world of media, radio and television and knew how to use them for the project of critical theory.

In our contemporary debates, Adorno's critical tone has regained its influence. Given the spread of fake news, big data, social media, and digital populism, critical theory can once again serve as an important / revealing reference for philosophically informed and sociologically founded media critique.

In addition to the exhibition, the international conference »Adorno and the Media« will take place on Friday and Saturday, 13 &14.12.2019.
