Biography

In 2014, Vasiliy Sumin graduated from the Siberian State Aerospace University and in 2019, he completed his studies at the Academy of Art.

Vasiliy has participated in various group exhibitions, including »Terrestrial Voices« (Yakutsk, 2022), »Fantastic Cosmos« (Milan, 2021), »Dialogue de Trianon« (Russia-France, 2020), and »Measure of Chaos« (Popov Communications Museum, St. Petersburg, 2020), among others.

In 2022, the artist was invited to participate in the »Solidarity« project at ZKM | Karlsruhe. In 2020, he won an international competition in South Korea and was invited to the International Art Like Salt residency curated by LampLab, under the direction of Suejin Shin.

Previously, the artist's practice has revolved around the transformation of knowledge encompassing politics, ecology, acoustics, mythology, science, and social processes. His areas of interest include social inequalities, decolonial practices, technology, acoustic and psychosomatic body-oriented practices, and horizontal communities. The artist focuses his research on the sensitivity of languages and other information systems, as well as their temporalities. He employs multi-channel audio and video techniques, sculpture, and performance art in his works.

For the past year and a half, he has been dedicating his time to volunteering and supporting the victims, building horizontal communities to provide humanitarian aid to Ukrainians.
