City Birthday Karlsruhe 2006
360°-PanoramaScreen
Fri, June 16, 2006 , Opening

One research and development focus at ZKM | Institute for Visual Media is the area of immersive projection environments, within which Innovative hardware and software solutions for artistic projects are developed. The Institute’s most recent development is a cylindrical screen for 360°-Panorama projections, which will be presented on the occasion of this year’s city birthday in the City Hall’s Bürgersaal. The PanoramaScreen, with a height of 3.5 meters and diameter of 10 meters, is played by four projectors with full-panoramic video films, which were filmed with a panorama camera specially developed at the Institute for Visual Media. Based on these first film recordings for the screen, the visitor can, among other things, go on a journey through Karlsruhe and discover the city from a new perspective.
