The Ensemble Modern, guest appearance at ZKM

The ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics continues its successful collaboration with the Ensemble Modern. Following the numerous guest performances by scholarship students studying at the International Ensemble Modern Academy, several Ensemble musicians will now take the stage at the ZKM_Cube. Among other works in the program are three that were created in the context of the ZKM composition studio. The Ensemble Modern was founded in 1980; since 1985 it has been located in Frankfurt am Main; and in 2003 it was declared a »guiding light« of contemporary culture in Germany by the Federal Cultural Foundation (Kulturstiftung des Bundes).
Loudspeaker Concert

Since the founding of the ZKM | Center for Art and Media, numerous purely acousmatic works have been created. For their playback, the Klangdom presents entirely new possibilities for setting the sounds in space. The works offer profound insight into the production of the ZKM | Institute for Music and Acoustics. Johannes Goebel was the first head of the Institute and a pioneer in German computer music. The tuba player Melvyn Poore brilliantly combines the acoustics of his brass instrument with electronic possibilities. Sabine Schäfer, composer and installation artist from Karlsruhe, creates a cartography of seemingly familiar music and sounds which map out new acoustic territory.
