In a hosted game show, the »Democracy Machine« encourages visitors to become active and join a discussion. Democratic participation is also the theme of our hands-on activity: equipped with brush and paint, everyone is invited to design the EU flag.

Democracy thrives on exchanging different viewpoints and on finding a joint solution. Adam J. Scarborough's »The Democracy Machine!« requires players to take a stand on a topic and discuss it. Two people compete against each other, within 10 seconds both must answer a question with either »Yes« or »No«. Ideally, a consensus is reached, sometimes a compromise, and sometimes an unresolved disagreement remains.

The »Democracy Machine« is part of the exhibition »zkm_gameplay«. On the occasion of the smARTplaces EU project, it will be set up on September 21, 2019 in the ZKM foyer. All visitors are cordially invited to join in the discussion and experience democracy in a playful way.
