We invite you to become a Wikipedia author and increase the online visibility of media artists. After an introduction to media art and a crash course on Wikipedia, we will spend the day researching and writing artist biographies.

Our goal is to write over 500 Wikipedia articles about media artists to enhance their visibility in the online encyclopedia. The 'Media Art on Wikipedia' project aims to add information about various artists to Wikipedia. Building on this foundation, we are hosting an Edit-a-thon at ZKM.

The Edit-a-thon offers a chance to create or revise Wikipedia entries and familiarize participants with the platform's structure. Attendees can improve their use of this valuable knowledge tool and contribute to the online encyclopedia as authors.

Program

The Edit-a-thon begins with a series of short presentations and introductions.

  • What is medie art
  • Writing for Wikipedia: How does it work?
  • How can I use digital tools to find and structure information?

No prior knowledge is required, but participants should have an interest in research and writing, and bring their own laptop. Complimentary refreshments will be provided. The event will be led by experienced Wikipedia contributors and ZKM personnel, who will offer technical and substantive support.

The results of the edit-a-thon will be documented on a Wikipedia dashboard page. All contributors will have the chance to be listed on the project page.
