Immerse! – Virtual Exhibition
Access exhibition

»Immerse!« is an international group exhibition about the various facets and epistemological, cognitive and political implications of immersion that are made possible through computation today. It took place at Lasnamäe Paviljon of the Tallinn Art Hall between 18.02 and 30.04.2023.

In the virtual world, spatial immersion is not tied to geographic location, but to the environment, whether computer-generated or physical. Thus, dichotomies such as presence and absence, real and simulation, material and immaterial lose their validity, and all merge in VR - as in virtual reality, but also in variable relations, vertical radiation, valid readings, vaporous restoration, or visible revision. The diverse exhibits within the Beyond Matter project each reflect this state.

»Beyond Matter« is an international, collaborative, practice-based research project that brings cultural heritage and culture-in-development to the edge of virtual reality. It does so by reflecting on the virtual state with a particular focus on its spatial aspects in art production, curation, and mediation.

One of the goals of the project is to develop novel solutions for accessible digital documentation and networked presentation of exhibitions. These methods of virtualization could be used in the future by museums and galleries to enliven their exhibitions in new ways.
